His Excellency Msgr. Renzo Fratini is at present Titular Archbishop of Botriana and, since the 20th of August 2009, Apostolic Nuncio in Spain.

Msgr. Fratini was born at Macerata (Italia), on the 25th of April 1944. He was ordained priest on the 6th of September 1969 and is a Doctor in Canon Law.

In 1974 he joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See and has worked in the nunciatures of Japan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Greece, Ecuador, Jerusalem and Palestine and France.

On the 7th of August 1993 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Pakistan. He was later appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Indonesia on the 8th of August 1998 and on the 24th of June 2003 he was named Apostolic Nuncio in East Timor as well.

Since the 27th of January 2004 Msgr. Fratini has been Apostolic Nuncio in Nigeria. In addition to Italian, he speaks Spanish, French and English.

Successor Msgr. Monteiro de Castro

Msgr. Fratini succeeds Msgr. Manuel Monteiro de Castro in the Apostolic Nunciature in Spain. The latter has been named Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops. Before taking position of his new appointment in Rome, he officially bade farewell celebrating a Solemn Mass on Sunday 30th August and 12:30 hours, in the Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel.

Msgr. Monteiro de Castro was nuncio of His Holiness in Spain since the 1st of March 2000.
