Here in the Basilica of San Miguel, since the month of April of this year, we celebrate “Masses for life”. We want to respond to a multiple challenge. On one hand, to support the urgent appeal of the Encyclical Evangelium Vitae of the unforgettable Pope John Paul II: "…a great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer. " (No. 100).

On the other hand, the authorities just like the various means of public opinion are planting among us an appalling culture of death that needs to be acted upon urgently. Their ugly campaign of "awareness" which is no other thing as the systematic elimination of human lives, has among other perverse effects to anesthetize the conscience of the people to remember the Fifth Commandment: "You shall not kill". In our prayer to the God of life, we include a firm and humble request that men and women work together and do something about this. As Santa Teresa says, to save human life from a devouring ideology which deprives it is indeed tough; with these euphemisms and alleged tributes to progress - to children, the disabled, the sick, the elderly and, in general, to all those, which, according to materialistic criteria, do not reach a certain level of quality of life.

On the threshold of the year 2000, John Paul II made an appeal to the youth of the Third Millennium: "You will not resign yourselves to a world where other human beings die of hunger, remain illiterate and have no work. You will defend life at every moment of its development; you will strive with all your strength to make this earth ever more livable for all people" (Tor Vergata, Vigil of Prayer, August 2000).

The Holy Mass celebrated every first Sunday of the month at 12:30 in the morning intended for the life, for the mothers who suffer first the tragic dilemma of abortion and for the children who have the right to be born and to be loved. Anyone wishing to collaborate may bring clothes for babies/infants or donations in cash. A basket will be placed on a table where the donations may be left. It will be of big help to those mothers helped by La Red Madre and will serve the purposes of the Life Foundation.
